Police arrest two in Bauchi for staging protest


The Police in Bauchi state, yesterday arrested two members of the Bauchi State Citizen of Conscience, (BSCC) for staging a protest against the removal of fuel subsidy in the state metropolis.

Vanguard gathered that as early as in the morning, members of the group converged around the Wunti Round about in the state, as the take-off for the protest, but the police who were stationed at various locations of the state to maintain law and order, arrested two members of the group.

Spokesman of the group, Barrister Idris Jibo who confirmed the arrested of two of its members, said, “it is true that the police arrested two of our members, because we were staging a protest in the state against the removal of the oil subsidy, but the police only released one person, while the other person is still in police custody.

Due to the present development, we have rescheduled the protest for Moday, when the NLC and the TUC will embark on their planned strike in the state.

When contacted over the alleged arrest of the two members of the group, The Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, ASP Mohammed Barau said that he was in a meeting and was unaware of the arrest of two members of the Bauchi State Citizens of Conscience.
