ENUGU—Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has commissioned two asphalted rural roads at Ima Amoli Umuagwu, and Ugbo, communities in Awgu local government area of Enugu State.
He charged newly elected local government chairmen in the state to channel their resources towards the provision of basic amenities for the people.
The two roads are part of the 50 road projects attracted by Ekweremadu from the Fedeal Government to his constituency.
Commissioning the projects, Ekweremadu, said the roads were part of his efforts to alleviate poverty among his constituents.
He said: “I feel fulfilled seeing this projects that would go a long way in alleviating suffering of the people of the these areas.
Ekweremadu, was accompanied by the senator representing Imo west district and chairman senate house committee on Aviation, Hope Uzodima, South East National Vice chairman of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, member representing Awgu(Aninri) Oji River federal constituency, Toby Okechwukwu, amongothers.
road projects were in fulfillment of his campaign promises to the people of the area whom he said, had been facing serious hardship on account of the topography of the area.
He appealed to areas that were yet to benefit from such constituency projects to be patient with him, assuring that every community within the senatorial zone would benefit from his representation.
The Deputy Senate President also promised the people of the senatorial district adequate representation at the National Assembly and pledged his readiness to collaborate with the local and state governments to provide social amenities to rural communities in the zone.
He stressed that the fight against poverty in the district and state at large should be a joint project.
Earlier In his remarks, Hon. Toby Okechukwu, a native of Ugbo community had expressed appreciation to the Deputy senate president for his love and kind gesture to his people and recalled how he provided electricity to the area after connecting it to the national greed and completion of the solar power electrification project as well as provision of a field office of Power Holding Company of Nigeria PHCN in the locality .
The former Special Adviser to Ekweremadu on projects, stated that Ugbo community had earlier benefited from the DSP’s water scheme which according to him, had continued to make life easy for the people.
Speaking at a civic reception in honour of the deputy senate president, the traditional ruler of Ugbo community, Igwe Godwin Ebem Udeonu expressed gratitude to the lawmaker on behalf of his subjects for his benevolence to his people, and conferred on him the chieftaincy title of (Onwa na etiti) of Ugbo land, meaning the shining moon for the community , just as Hon. Toby Okechukwu, bagged the title of Omeluora meaning a philanthropist.
