Asaba—COMMERCIAL activities gradually picked  up in Asaba, Delta State, yesterday, after Monday’s strike that shut down the town.

Although offices and banks remained shut, and majority of the fuel stations also closed shop, business was picking up. Unlike Monday when markets were shut, they were opened yesterday, so too were private business centres.

Fairly long queues were seen at fuel stations dispensing petrol which sold for between N140 and N145 per litre.

Meanwhile, a member of the state House of Assembly, representing Warri South-West constituency, Mr. Daniel Mayuku, has called on the Federal Government to order mega stations run by Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, nationwide, to sell at the old pump price of N65 pending when the current logjam over deregulation was resolved.

He noted that Federal Government bearing the brunt for now would be commendable while efforts should be made to make refineries in the country working at optimal capacity.
