Traders laud Ajimobi for re-opening park

BY OLA AJAYI

IBADAN- DOZENS of traders at the Trans Amusement Park, Ibadan who had pleaded with Governor Abiola Ajimobi to re-open their shops at the park have given kudos to the governor for his quick response to their plea.

Governor Ajimobi ordered the re-opening of their shops after the take-over of the park by the state government.

The state government recently closed the park after alleging that the process leading to the concessioning by the administration of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to a private company, Ahmak Engineering Limited was fraught with errors..

The state government said then that it “had no other alternative other than to take over the property because the concessioning was done in bad faith and the whole process flawed.”

According to a government statement, the entire Park was concessioned out for 30 years to Ahmak Engineering Ltd, the major contractor to the Akala government that constructed the over N30 billion LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

He also said that virtually all the major multi-billion naira contracts of the former government, on the understanding that Ahmak would pay into the state coffers the sum of N150million for the first three years and would not pay anything for subsequent three years.

However, the traders under the aegis of Trans Arcade Marketers’ Association (TAMA), in a letter dated December 2, 2011 expressed their appreciation to the governor for being sympathetic to their cause.
