AKURE – MEMBERS of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta and environment have been recalled from the Christmas and New Year recess following the spillage of about 40,000 barrels of crude oil at Bonga oil field.
Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, a member of the committee told newsmen in Akure yesterday that members of the committee have been directed to visit the scene of the oil spill with a view to determine the extent of destruction and damage to aquatic life and property. He however did not mention who gave the directive.
The member who represents Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State explained that necessary attention would be drawn including international attention to the incident to ensure that the oil company that was responsible for the incident is made to pay for the cost of the damages.
