If what Unilever Plc is planning to do with Royco, a seasoning from its shelf in the southern part of Nigeria is anything to go by, then, competition in the seasoning market will be stretched to an unbearable limit, even though Knorr from the same stable with Royco has been accorded strong position in the market by consumers and Maggi from Nestle Plc and Onga from Promasidor is doing their bit to retain their positions and market shares in their marketplace.
As the popularity of the Royco brand in the northern market gains market prominence and because of its recent promotional campaign, The Royco Celebration – season 2 tagged; ‘Royco Aroma challenge’ in that part of the country, there is a promise from the house of the brand to move to the Southern market.
Premised on the vow by the parent of one of the winners of two Picanto Kia, the star prize of the challenge; Philip Matthew, the father, a businessman promised Unilever that he was going to invest N10 million to make sure the brand rules the northern market. On the other hand, Mallam Abubakar was full of praise for the brand and Unilever for delivering on their promise.
His words, “I will make sure nobody hears of any other seasoning brand in the core north and middle belt,” he assured.
On this note, the company through Mrs. Mrs. Nsima Ogedi-Alakwe, Category Manager for Savoury of Unilever re-affirmed the brands preparedness to make an incursion into the southern market where it’s market visibility is shallow.
The commence of the promo in the northern part of the country according to Ogedi-Alakwe was because the brand has large market shares and on the verge of making sure it remains in an enviable position in that part of the country.
She went further to say that the promo whose activation took effect from July 2011 has visited 52 cities and already given out about 30 bikes and other consolation prizes.
The Category Manager said the brand’s mission is to help consumers get more out of life, and to show women across the country how to use the Royco seasoning cubes to give their traditional meals its unique flavor and the irresistible aroma that brings their husbands home.
Supported by the recently launched marketing communication campaign, which calls on women to bring their husbands home with Royco, the main message of the Royco Celebration is for women to create a celebration in their homes everyday by deriving pleasure from cooking delicious traditional meals and sharing them, and also enjoying the pleasure of sharing those meals with their husbands.
Her words, “When we launched the ‘Bring Your Husband Home’ campaign last year, it was with the intention to celebrate the joy of marital bonding and togetherness, which can be facilitated by a delicious meal that has a unique aroma and flavour that only a wife can give her husband.”
Continuing, she said, “This is why we are bringing the Royco Celebration – season 2; because it celebrates the special qualities of Royco, and the joy that it brings to women’s cooking and the meals shared with their husbands,” she added.
“Every year, in driving the Royco brand, our focus has been more on the emotional enjoyment that women derive by using Royco because it not only gives their meals a unique flavor and aroma, but it also brings the person that matters most beside her on the dining table – her husband.” noted.
