Military instructor slumps, dies at NYSC orientation camp

IBADAN- A military instructor whose name was given as Lance Corporal Amaku Uwa (02NA/S2/3202) has slumped and died at the Oyo State orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

He was said to have died in the hostel of the NYSC at Iseyin. While disclosing the circumstances that led to the death of the soldier Wednesday, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Sekinatu Idowu said the soldier died in the early hours of November 28.

She said, the remains of the deceased were immediately transferred to the Nigerian Army, 2 Division, Odogbo Cantonement, Ibadan for burial.

Mrs. Idowu explained to visiting Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Nnamdi Okore-Affia that the late soldier would be missed by the entire staff and corps members at the camp, describing the dead soldier as calm and dedicated.

However, he slumped and died on his way from the toilet around 1.00 a.m.

It was the usual camp fire alarm exercise that woke the corp members from their sleep which did not give room for suspicion about the soldier’s death.

It was being speculated that the soldier may have suffered heart related ailment.

To honour the departed soldier, a minute silence was observed.
