GOLF: Mark, Kingibe shine at President Cup

Senate President David Mark, former Secretary to the Federal Government, Babangana Kingibe and former Nigeria’s number one golfer Umoh Edet have emerged as victors of the weeklong President Cup Golf Championship concluded in Abuja last weekend.

Mark playing off handicap twelve returned a level par nett score of 144 over 36 holes at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club Abuja.

Mark who also stood in for the President Goodluck Jonathan at the event said he was elated and urged the NGF to move the tournament to different golf facilities around the country.

Babangana Kingibe won the veteran’s best prize with 173 gross score while Brig General Victor Lot (rtd), clinched the veteran prize in the nett category.

Earlier on Friday Umoh Edet, an Abuja based former leader of Nigeria’s Professional Golfers Association’s (PGA) ranking had won the professional category of the event with a three strokes advantage over Kano based Kabiru Habu Mohammed.

The event which featured over 350 golfers from all over the country had telecommunication giant Globacom as its main sponsor and Bode Opeseitan, Globacom’s sponsorship and event Director has assured that his company intended to take her incursion into golf beyond the 2011 sponsorship of the President Cup.
