OWERRI—The Federal Government has said the major thrust of its transformation agenda in the power sector was to ensure improved electricity supply to the citizenry.
The Minister of Power, Prof Barth Nnaji, who stated this during the commissioning of N131 million 60MVA, 132/33 KV power transformer in Owerri, also promised that fire-fighting equipment would be installed in all PHCN sub-stations.
“The attainment of this lofty goal is predicated on the construction of critical power infrastructure, as well as the reinforcement of existing network facilities across the country”, Nnaji said.
It was the considered view of the Minister that “the commissioning of this new power transformer is a result of the Federal Government’s prompt action in replacing the burnt 45MVA power transformer in this sub-station with a new 60 MVA power transformer”.
Speaking also, Governor Rochas Okorocha lamented that public power supply has been a major problem in Nigeria, stressing that the nation’s stagnating economic milieu stems from this ugly situation.
He appealed to the federal government to upgrade the facilities in Orlu and Okigwe zones of the state, adding that “we can’t ask for anything better than steady power supply.
