Nigerians have been told to prepare for scarcity of drinking water in 2025.
Dr. Edu Inam, National Coordinator, Internatio-nal Year of Chemistry, IYC, (Global Experi-ment), made the revelation at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, Delta State, during a workshop organised by Chemical Society of Nigeria, CSN, Delta State chapter for Chemistry students.
While emphasising the importance of Chemistry to human life in areas such as plastics, drugs, fibre, fertilizer and rubbers, Inam explained to the Chemistry students the threats to water quality and quantity, and other contaminants of water resources.
Dr. Inam, of the Department of Chemistry, University of Uyo, further lamented that African countries are still ignorant of water treatment, noting that most of its water resources are contaminated.
State Chairman CSN, Pastor Gideon Irerhievwie, said Chemistry is now a profession by virtue of the establishment of Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, ICCON, by the Federal Government.
