Egbin power plant restored to full capacity

Lagos— Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Station, Mr Mike Uzoigwe, said yesterday that the faulty plant had been restored to its full capacity.

Uzoigwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Egbin in Ikorodu, near Lagos, that the plant which collapsed on December 13 was now working at its full capacity, generating 1,080 megawatts of power.

It would be recalled that the nation’s power generation dropped by 1,080 megawatts on December 13, due to the shutdown of the Egbin Power Station by the station’s management.

The “Deminerasation Plant,” which generates power with water, was shut down on Tuesday when it developed fault, with Uzoigwe assuring Nigerians on Thursday that the faulty power plant would commence operation within 48 hours.

“The plant came up at about 5.43 on Saturday morning and all the five units in the station are now working at full capacity,” he said

According to him, generation currently stands at about 1,080 megawatts, adding: “Generation is fully back and I have informed the minister of power of our present capacity generation.”

A text message sent by Uzoigwe to the Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, reads: “I wish to inform you, sir, that all our units are back in the grid.

“Status as follows: ST 01 200 MW, ST 02 165 MW, ST 03 110MW,(going up)  ST 04 173 MW, ST 05 203 MW and AES 171 MW, total from our axis is 1020 MW. We hope to have a more stable power supply during Xmas.”

NAN confirmed during a visit to the station on Sunday that the plant was working at full capacity while a monitoring team from the Federal Ministry of Finance was seen inspecting the plant.
