WARRI—DELTA State Government has assured victims of the recent fire incident at Udu Habour Market, in Udu Local Government Area of the state, of assistance. It advised residents of the state to be more safety conscious to avoid similar incidents in other parts of the state.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tony Nwaka, gave the assurance, weekend, when he carried out on the spot assessment to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the night fire, which destroyed property worth millions of naira, last Thursday.

The Commissioner said: “That was why I came to take a look at the place. Our officers will equally come to assess the extent of damage in terms of the financial cost and from that point we will estimate the assistance government can render. But one assurance I can give you is that government will definitely come to their aid.”

He said Delta State Government sympathized with the victims over their loss, stressing that it became very painful, particularly now that they were expected to be celebrating Christmas.
