Delta Assembly uncovers 200 ghost workers

By Austin Ogwuda
Asaba—SPEAKER of  Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, yesterday said that over two hundred ghost workers have been uncovered in the Assembly, following the introducing of new reforms, shortly after assuming office.

Ochei, who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen in Asaba, also promised Deltans that the House was working towards passing the 2012 state’s budget which was presented last week by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

He said:  “We came down with a lot of reforms in the House. We met like five hundred and something members of staff and our own argument was that if we have five hundred members of staff in this complex, the whole place will be vibrating.

“Definitely what it means is that we have a lot of persons who do not come to work. So we decided in our wisdom that we were going to introduce the biometrics where people will come in and clock their finger prints.

“I am glad to say to you that today, we have discovered that we have only less than three hundred and fifty persons that have been coming to work, from five hundred and something. So that tells you what we have been able to save the state government.

On the recent licence granted the state government to generate electricity, the speaker said it was worth  celebrating.
