Bafarawa rejoins ANPP

Sokoto – (NAN) Former Gov. Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State on Sunday left the ACN and rejoined the ANPP at a grand ceremony presided over by the party’s National Chairman, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Bafarawa was also a former presidential candidate on the platform of the DPP.

Bafarawa said his return to the ANPP was since expected and advised the party to set up a high-powered committee to persuade retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and other chieftains to return to its fold.

He stressed the need for Nigeria to remain united in the face of current challenges.

On his part, Onu described the event as homecoming for Bafarawa, adding that the chances of the party in future elections were bright.

He said: “ANPP believes in its constitution, due process and internal democracy and that is why we have no factions in the party.

“We believe in true representative leadership. But Nigeria’s democracy needs to be restructured.’’

Onu opined that most of the problems in the country were self-inflicted and urged all Nigerians to work with the party to achieve a greater country, stressing that “there is always strength in opposition.’’

Yobe governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, who is also the Chairman of ANPP Governors’ Forum, said the party was capable of wresting power from the PDP in Sokoto State in 2012.

The event was also attended by the deputy governors of Zamfara and Borno States, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala and Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, respectively and Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Kano State.
