Group Managing Director of Veta Group of Companies, Olorogun Isaac Akpoveta, has joined millions of Nigerians to extol the sterling qualities of the late Publisher of The Guardian Newspaper, Mr. Alex Uruemu Ibru.
Akpoveta said Alex Ibru was a role model in the Nigeria media industry. He said: “Nigeria has lost a media colossus and a trail blazer who made his mark in every human endeavour he found himself.
As a Minister of Internal Affairs, during the regime of the late Gen. Sanni Abacha, Alex Ibru never interfered with the editorial content of the newspaper even when the newspaper was critical of the regime he was serving. This is a rare quality among media owners in the country.
“Alex was a good Christian who committed his life and resources to the service of God and humanity. He donated the Ibru Centre to the Anglican Communion for research, development and growth of the church.”
“Nigerians and the world will miss his professionalism, patriotism, statesr;lanship and philanthropic gestures. Ibru lived a fulfilled life even at 66 because he m’~de positive impact in business, religion and in the lives of so many Nigerians.”
He condoled with the Ibru family and Agbarha Otor community
