‘AIB submitted 8 accident reports to Presidency for adoption’

By Kenneth Ehigiator
Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, of the Aviation Ministry has in the past year submitted eight air crash reports to the Presidency for adoption as safety guides.

Outgoing Commissioner of AIB, Mr. Sam Oduselu, disclosed this, yesterday, while handing over the reins of power in the agency to the new head, Capt. Mukhtar Usman.

According to him, more accident investigations were at various stages of completion and their reports will be sent to the Presidency as soon as they are ready.

He said: “No fewer than eight accident reports have been sent to the Presidency through the ministry for more than a year now.

“We have pushed a lot of safety recommendations to the industry and alerted the industry through seminar and workshop on some of the discoveries in accident investigation that could impair safety.”

Oduselu said the agency had fully addressed the dearth of manpower which had been a major factor that militated against its operations, adding that the technical department was beefed up by staff seconded from the regulatory agency, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, and retired aviation experts.
