Wigan Athletic coach, Roberto Martinez would be a happy man if Victor Moses played for the English national team rather than pledge his allegiance to Nigeria.
During the week, FIFA cleared the Kaduna-born Moses and Shola Ameobi to play for Nigeria, but Martinez is hoping that England coach, Fabio Capello can persuade Moses to commit to England.
This is against the back ground of Wayne Rooney missing the first three games of the Euro 2012 Championship. Martinez argued that Moses was happy when he played for the England under-20 team.
“Moses is someone I know would love to play for Nigeria. But, when he played in the age groups for England, he was extremely proud. He’ll need to do what the heart tells him.
He added that Moses has potentials to be a world-class player as he was developing with every game.
Martinez said: “It’d be all too easy to say how important it is to have Victor at his top level. He’s doing his job and it’s more the other players needing to come up to his standard.
“It’s fair to say any player coming into the Premier League will need that little bit of time but, the way he is as a player, you don’t see many like him in world football.
“He’s an old type of winger who relies on his raw talent and he puts a smile on your face.”
