Tribunal rules on Uduaghan, Ogboru case today

BY Austin Ogwuda

Asaba-Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Asaba will, today, deliver judgment in the petition by governorship candidate of Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, Chief Great Ogboru, challenging the election of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Meanwhile, security in and around Asaba, the state capital, had been beefed up.

The tribunal, headed by Justice Joy Unwana, had last week, after the adoption of written addresses by parties, adjourned indefinitely while promising to communicate the date for the judgment to counsel in the matter.

Ogboru had asked the tribunal to nullify the declaration of Uduaghan as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, adding that he (Ogboru) should be declared winner of the election.

Uduaghan had asked the tribunal to dismiss the petition, contending that he won the election fairly.
