Suspected cultists kill 5, injure others in Bayelsa

Yenagoa-Suspected cultists, Sunday night, killed five persons and injured many others in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

It was learnt that trouble started when some youths, suspected to be cultists, stormed a relaxation joint, Phil Collins Bar, on School Road in the Edepie, a suburb of Yenagoa in a Mercedes Benz car at about 8.15pm.

The armed youths, believed to be on the trail of a target opened fire, on identifying him. He died on the spot.

It was gathered that four other innocent persons were killed while several others sustained serious injuries.

The remains of the deceased persons were reportedly removed by a police patrol team which raced to the scene on receiving a distress call. The bodies were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre’s morgue.

When Vanguard visited the scene, an eyewitness said: “The assailants, who stormed the bar in a black Mercedes Benz car went straight for their target and shot him, killing him instantly. They made away with his body.

“The other four persons were hit by stray bullets and killed.”

The state Commissioner of Police, who confirmed the incident on telephone, said his men were working round the clock to unravel the mystery behind the killings.
