ABUJA — The stage is set for the final dissolution of the Supreme Council for  Sports in Africa (SCSA) next January.

This was disclosed in Abuja yesterday by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Dr. Patrick Ekeji while inaugurating a committee to organize the final meeting of the continental sports body scheduled to hold between  9th  and 12th January, 2012 for  the sole purpose of dissolving the SCSA.

He further explained that the decision to dissolve SCSA was in line with earlier decisions taken by the African Union Conference of Sports Ministers (AU-CAMS) at meetings  held in Abuja and Accra, Ghana.

According to him: “The Extra-Ordinary General Assembly of the SCSA scheduled for 9th to 12th January, 2012 is a follow-up of the decisions of the AU-CAMS2 in Accra, Ghana in 2008 and AU-CAMS3 in Abuja in 2009 which resolved that the SCSA should be dissolved four  months after the hosting of the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo.

It became logical therefore for Nigeria, as Chairman of AU-CAMS to be given the mandate to decisively conclude the dissolution process of the SCSA.”

He stated that to ensure that a hitch-free extra-ordinary General assembly is organized next January, the Minister of Sports Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman directed that seasoned sports administrators be appointed to midwife the process.

The Committee which is  to be headed by  Mr Tokunbo Adetunji NSC Director, Sports Planning, Research and Documentation also includes the following as members: Director, Grassroots Sports Development who would serve as   Vice Chairman and   Director, Press and Public Relations. Others include   Director, Accounts, Ag. Director, Federations and Elite Athletes Development and   Deputy Director, Human Resources Department.

Also appointed into the Committee were  Dr. Ademola Are,   Dr. Ibrahim Saleh,   Mr A. D. Sulaiman,    Mr Peter Nelson and  Abba  Yola who would serve as  Secretary.

The Secretariat of the Committee which would be headed by the Secretary, has the following staff as members:      Dr Emmanuel Igbinosa,    Mr S. Y. Pepple,   Mr Edem Torti,    Mr Olalekan Alabi,    Mrs Amina Amanchi,  Hauwa Mohammed,   Mrs Agnes Adeyanju,   Mrs Amaka Ashiofu,    Grace A,        Mr E. S. Essien and   Mrs Iya Gamawa
