Police arrest 5 armed robbers at Ajangbadi, 3 car thieves at Meiran

FIve members of a notorious robbery gang that have been terrorizing residents of Ajangbadi and it’s environ for a long time, were last week, arrested by anti-robbery policemen attached to Ilemba Hausa Police Station recovering arms and ammunition.

Also, a three – man gang of suspected armed robbers who specialized in snatching Toyota Camry cars from it’s owners in Lagos State have been arrested by the police.

Crime Alert gathered that the suspects met their waterloo after a man hunt was launched by the Ilemba Hausa police division following rampant criminal activities of the gang, who were resposible for series of robbery operations across, Ajangbadi, Ojo Alaba and it environ.

A police source, who gave the identities of the suspects as: David Silas, Niyi Bolaji, Odutola Temitope Jude Jepher and Lawal Ramoni, said they were picked up from various locations in the area.

According to him, “ we learnt of the activities of the gang for a long time and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP, Mohammed Lawal, ordered the anti-robbery team to fish out the gang. Two of the suspects, David Silas and Niyi Bolaji were picked up at their hideout at Jejelaiye Street, while the others were apprehended at various locations.

The three – man gang  who were identified as Wale Adesanya, Godwin Isah and Olusegun Ayodele met their waterloo recently, when policemen attached to the anti-robbery section of Meran Police Station intercepted them in a stolen Toyota Camry car, with reg. No. CU 814 FST, at a location in Meran area of the state.

A police source told Crime Alert that the division has been disturbed following several complaints of snatched Toyota Camry cars in the area.

According to him, “ we have received several complaints of stolen Toyota Camry in our area and some of them were snatched at gun point while others were removed from their parks. On that day, we received a distress call that a car of the same make have been snatched from it’s owner in our area and we swung into action and chased the robbers.

We eventually caught up with them along Meran Road where there was a heavy traffic and the robbers alighted from the car, crossed over to the other side of the road and attempted boarding a commercial bus when we apprehended them. A double barrel shotgun and ten live cartridges were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Olusegun Ayodele, who was described as the leader of the gang, told Crime Alert that they specialized in snatching Toyota Camry cars because they are easy to sell and uneasy to detect by the police.

“ We chose Toyota Camry because we can always dispose it off easily and our buyers often request for it. They told us that the police don’t detect it easily.” he said

The command spokesman, Samuel Jinadu who confirmed the report said the suspects are currently under going interrogation and they are also helping the police in their investigations. The police spokesman added that the suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigations.
