Nwankwo replaces Lukman

Obiora Nwankwo has been named as the captain of Nigeria’s Olympic team, replacing Haruna Lukman.

Parma midfielder Nwankwo joined the squad at the Hotel Anfa Port Casablaca in Morocco on Saturday night. He was part of the team’s general meeting where coach Austin Eguavoen reminded the boys of the task ahead.

“I want to welcome you all to Casablanca. As you already know; we are in early to acclimatize to the weather, perfect our tactics and do our country proud,” Eguavoen said.

Nigeria has suffered what can pass for a black year, with nearly all the national teams failing to qualify for major tournaments, and Eguavoen reminded the players that they had the expectations of the entire country behind them.“We started this journey way back in the early part of this year. Now is the time to reap the fruits of our hard work and to do that we must stay focused on the task ahead? You must write you names in history books because our country is depending on us,” he charged.
