The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has conferred the “Icon of Democracy” award on Governor Adams Oshiomhole for “changing the face of Edo State within three years”.
President of the Union, Mallam Mohammed Garba made the presentation at the Constitution Review Conference of the Union in Benin City.
Speaking on the occasion, Mallam Garba said the achievements of Comrade Oshiomhole has vindicated labour as being capable of turning the country around.
According to Garba, “for those of us who have been travelling to Benin City, we have seen quite a number of innovations. We have seen quite a number of qualities and programmes which your administration has introduced and we want to believe that such programmes would better the life of the Edo people and Nigeria”.
The NUJ President pointed out that in view of the tremendous achievements so far recorded as the Edo state Governor, we believe that the NUJ would honour you so as to encourage you to continue to perform and add value to the people of the state.
“I want to say that the award is from the bottom of our hearts and it has not been influenced by anybody. It is out of our conviction that you have done well. As a trade union movement the NUJ is convinced that you are a good ambassador of Labour” he added.
Responding, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole commended the NUJ for conferring the award on him. He said, “I am humbled for finding me worthy of this award, which I accept whole heartedly with gratitude. I am grateful and for me it is an incentive to do more.”
