Lagos – Mutiu Adepoju, a former Super Eagles player, says Steven Keshi should not be judged by the result of the friendly match between Nigeria and Botwana in Benin City, the Edo capital on Saturday.
The game, between the Super Eagles and the Zebras of Botswana, which was played at the Ogbemudia Stadium Benin, ended in a goal less draw.
It was Keshi’s first coaching test
Adepoju said in a phone interview that Keshi should be given the chance to rebuild the team without pressure.
“This is only a test for Keshi; he is still observing the team and testing the new boys. You cannot expect him to perform magic just two days after his appointment.
“Botswana is not a pushover. They qualified for African Nations Cup, and we should have that at the back of our mind that Nigeria did not play an underdog team,’’ he said.
Adepoju, who was optimistic that Keshi would bring back the lost glory of Nigerian football, added: “Keshi is a goal getter and will deliver.
“I believe Keshi knows football very well because he played for the country before,” he said.
Botswana defeated Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles and Togo’s Sparrow Hawks, on the way to their first African Nations Cup finals qualification.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Keshi will take his boys to Kaduna to face Zambia in their second international friendly. (NAN)
