NAAPE/Air Nigeria face-off resolved —Balami

LAGOS — Following the grounding of all Air Nigeria’s flights nationwide, President, National AssocAiation of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, Engr. Balami David, Tuesday, said the circumstances that led to the grounding of the airline’s operations had been resolved.

Speaking to aviation correspondents at an interactive session at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Balami said Air Nigeria was now flying its aircraft in the airspace.

He said: “The issue between NAAPE and Air Nigeria had been resolved and their aircrafts are now flying. They started flying today (yesterday).”

On measure the management of the airline had put in place to address some of the issues NAAPE raised, Balami said  the Minister of Aviation, Princes Stella Oduah, had waded into the matter.

adding that the management of Air Nigeria had agreed to look into those issues with immediate effect.

“The Minister of Aviation, Princes  Oduha called NAAPE. We had a meeting with the Minster and Director General of NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren. So this morning (yesterday), the management of Air Nigeria, the CEO, Mr. Kinfe Kahssaye, Finance Director, Legal Director, they all came into Abuja and we had a meeting and at the meeting, Air Nigeria management agreed to look into with immediate effect, the package of the engineers and the pilots, including welfare packages and to make sure that it meets with that other airlines in the aviation industry,” he said.

He said, “on the issue of leave, the management agreed to sit down with us and agree on how to structure the manpower, so that it would have people on ground to work, since everybody cannot go on leave at the same time.”

He noted that the management of the airline also admitted that it had learnt its lesson from what happened prior to the grounding of its aircraft.
