N15bn debt: PHCN threatens mass disconnection in S-South

By Jimitota Onoyume
PORT HARCOURT— MOST states in the South-South region of the country may not enjoy electricity supply during the yuletide season, if Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, makes good its threat to carry out mass disconnection over alleged N15 billion debt owed it in the region.

Principal Manager, Public Affairs, Port Harcourt zone, Obidili Onuwah, said the debt was affecting service delivery in the region.

He said the electricity firm had concluded arrangement to commen-ce disconnection.

He enjoined debtor customers to endeavour to pay to avoid the embarrassment of remai-ning in darkness during the yuletide.

According to him, government offices and their agencies would not be spared in the mass disconnection exercise if they are found to be in debt.
