Owerri— Imo State Government has promised to give N450 million bailout to the 45 primary and secondary schools it handed over to some Christian missions.

The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued yesterday at the end of the meeting between the school proprietors and state government at the Asumpta Pastoral Centre, Owerri.

The communique stated that each of the listed schools would get N10 million as bailout

Former Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s administration handed over the schools to the missions in September 2010 and promised to give them bailout.

The communiqué, read by the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Jude Agbaso, stated: “Government has reached understanding and agreement to partner with mission schools in the state.”

It stated that all primary schools previously owned and located in church premises would be handed over to such churches.

According to the communiqué, government will give N1 million farm grant to each of such schools as well as assist them to improve on their infrastructure.

It will also partner with them in value reorientation, elimination of corruption and immorality.

The communiqué, however, warned host communities of such schools against interfering in the affairs and management of the mission schools.
