Efforts to beef up security network in Igbo-Etiti local government area, Enugu state, yielded positive dividend recently after the Chairman of the council, Chief Ogbonna Idike built new police barracks for officers and men of the Nigeria police force in the area and spent over N800 million on various road projects.
Chief Ogbonna Idike who disclosed this to Crime Alert while reacting to the merit award conferred on him by a community newspaper “Dega Voice” at its fourth anniversary, said the police barracks which have been commissioned and other projects had positively impacted on lives of the people of the local government area.
The projects includes police barracks, health centers, council legislative complex, primary schools, 17 kilometer asphalt road, traditional rulers complex, over 60 kilometer earth road and boreholes.
Chief Idike further explained that the 17 kilometer asphalt and over 60 kilometer roads had improved inter and intra-community transportation and made evacuation of agricultural produce of the area easier and affordable.
The chairman also said that within the past four years of his administration, the council has been able to embark on developmental projects that impacted positively on the lives of the people of the area. He noted that the council, outside the 17 kilometer asphalt road network and other projects earlier mentioned, built corper’s lodge, renovated 52 primary schools, built a befitting traditional ruler and legislative council complex, among others.
Chief Idike stressed that the council is most concerned about security of lives and property of her people and built four modern police barracks with modern building apparatus and prayed his successor to consolidate on what the council has done and do more to better the lives of people.
The chairman who will be stepping out of office by this December averred that good governance is an imperative component of democracy and restated his belief that election or appointment into public office should be seen as an opportunity to render good service to the people on whose mandates one is elected or appointed.
Chief Idike also praised journalists in Enugu state for fair and balanced reportage of news stories of Igbo-Etiti local government council for the past four year and prayed them not to derail while carrying their professional duties. He finally urged Igbo-Etiti police division to make good use of the new police barrack to improve on security network of the area in crime prevention and detention.
