Gombe govt threatens thugs

BY JOHN BULUS
GOMBE—Gombe State Government has vowed to deal with political thugs (KaleACre) who have made life unbearable for the people.

Chief of Staff of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, Alhaji Ahmed Yayari, said yesterday at a briefing that the government was committed to eradicating the menace of the Kalere boys, which, he stressed, was inimical to the growth of the state.

According to him, no individual or group would be allowed to undermine the peace now reigning in Gombe State.

Kalere is noted for its nefarious activities which had led to the untimely death of hundreds of the indigenes in recent times, warranting Governor Dankwambo to promise hard times for political thugs during his inauguration ceremony.

At his inauguration, the Governor made a categorical statement as regards the issue of Kalare. There and then, he made it clear that from that moment, the issue of Kalere will no longer be tolerated in Gombe State.

’’But recently, we have discovered that there is a resurgence of the activities of kalere boys.  It therefore becomes necessary to assure the citizens of Gombe State that the era of Kalere is gone and gone forever. His Excellence is committed to realizing that objective.

’The police have made some arrests of some suspected Kalere boys and paraded them. And we are calling on the security agencies to ensure that those who have been arrested and paraded are prosecuted. Government is watching seriously to see what security agencies will do,” he added, pointing out however that his government has  evolved programmes aimed at rehabilitating the youth to minimise their involvements in criminal activities.
