Forum sues for peace over Oshiomhole’s running mate

By Simon Begbulem
BENIN— Nirowa Solidarity Forum, a socio-cultural organisa-tion in Edo State, has appealed to state Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu to allow the decision of the leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, prevail on who becomes the running mate of Governor Adams Oshiomhole for next year’s governorship election.

The group, in a statement by Elder Felix Izekor, however, expressed fears that the issue may scuttle the chances of the party in the forthcoming governorship election if the matter was not handled properly.

The forum recalled that ACN leadership in the state had so far failed to endorse Dr. Odudu as running mate to Oshiomhole, adding that the issue should not be a “do-or-die affair for the current Deputy Governor in order not to destroy the laudable projects of the Governor Oshiomhole-led administration.”

The statement read: “As a socio-cultural organisa-tion, we have a duty to make studied evaluations of our polity and advance issue-based struggles that will enhance it for the benefit of all.

“This is why it has become incumbent on us to appeal to stakeholders to prevail on the Deputy Governor to respect the party’s decision and steer clear of actions that could further polarise our party in the march to 2012 gubernatorial election.

“We are appealing that he should respect the decision of the leaders to avoid problems for the party.”
