Dipo Dina’s alleged killer arraigned, remanded in prison

ABEOKUTA—The suspected killer of former governorship candidate of Action Congress, AC, in 2007 general election in Ogun State, Otunba Dipo Dina, was yesterday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court, sitting in the Isabo area of the state capital.

The accused, Kposou Kiki, was taken to court on a five count charge including murder unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery.

Kiki, 30, an alleged armed robber, was ordered remanded in prison custody by the Magistrate, Mrs O.O Stanley, over his alleged involvement in the killing of Dina, on January 25, 2010 on Ota-Idiroko road of the state.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Banji Sangotokun, the offence was punishable under Section 516A of the Criminal Code, Cap 29 Revised Law of Ogun State 2006.

At yesterday’s arraignment, Kiki, was accused of conspiring with others, still at large, to kill the late politician.

The magistrate refused to grant the suspect bail due to the high profile nature of the case.

Stanley however ordered   that the case file be duplicated by the police and forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.

According to the charge; “he and others still at large did unlawfully possessed a locally made pistol cut to size  thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 27 (1) (a) (1) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Vol. 7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

The police also accused Kiki of robbing Dina of his Toyota Camry car with registration number FQ 661 EKY valued at N3 million at gunpoint, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 402 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code, cap 29 revised laws of Ogun State 2006.

The magistrate refused to take the plea of the accused when the charges were read to him and later adjourned further hearing in the matter to January 12, 2012.
