Balarabe accuses saboteurs in govt

BY DOTUN IBIWOYE
LAGOS—Former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has said that the members of the  Boko Haram sect who claimed responsibility for  weekend’s killings in Yobe and Borno states might be fifth columnists in the government.

Members of the organisation claimed responsibility for the killing of no fewer than  150 people in Damaturu, Yobe State and Maiduguri, Borno State, through bombs.

In a telephone interview with Vanguard, Monday, Musa said the activities of the Boko Haram group  were contrary to Islamic teachings as they were committing crimes against humanity.

He said: “Borno State is the centre of operation of the Boko Haram, so most people will not be surprised about what they did there  last Friday. What is surprising is why the security agencies could not protect the citizens of Nigeria.

“Up till now, we do not really know these people called Boko Haram. They claimed that they are Muslims, but we still do not know what they stand for.

’’They said they want to introduce Sharia in Nigeria and remove Western culture, but from their statements, one can find out they might even be people in government or the government itself.

“It will be recalled that someone recently claimed that he was with the State Security Service and this same  person was spokesperson for Boko Haram.

’’There is still so much confusion. But whatever is amazing  and confusing to we, Nigerians; the securitymen know better than we do.

“As an agency  of governemt  bestowed with the authority to protect lives and property, they have to make sure that they protect us. It is their duty. They must not allow anyone in  whatever position, to take laws in his/her hands,” he said.
