Super Eagles and West Brom striker Peter Osaze Odemwinge has spoken the minds of his colleagues in the national team, positing that every one of them, particularly the younger ones want to be in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, when the continental biennial soccer fiesta begins.
Osaze who spoke in Abuja at the team’s training camp said that Guinea will have it tough on Saturday as the Super Eagles were determined to win the encounter and qualify for the Nations Cup.
“The atmosphere in camp is very positive. Every player wants to play, particularly the young ones who have not been to the Nations Cup before. It is a wonderful atmosphere here,” he emphasised.
He declared himself fit and said he was ready for the Abuja battle. “I am fit and ready, he said, adding, “I have played four matches in the last two weeks, so I am fit.”
Osaze who will be playing his first international match since April following a disagreement with coach Samson Siasia said the timing for the match will not be a hindrance to the Eagles. “It is not a new thing to us. We have a favourable weather in Europe where we have summer, the weather is not too cold. It is a bit warm. It is not too different from what we have here.”
The fast-playing striker who can fit in as a top attacker or winger said the players were conditioning themselves towards the afternoon encounter. “We drink a lot of water now so as not to have cramps at the end of the game. We are prepared. There is nothing we can do about the time than to work towards it. CAF fixed the match for that time.”
Osaze who made history last season as West Brom’s all time highest goal scorer with 15 goals in a single season would not be dragged into predicting how many goals the Eagles will score in the match.
“It is not going to be easy. There will be a lot of pressure on them because we are going to play offensive football. We need support from fans. We expect a full stadium because if the fans are not there, that could be an excuse for us not win”
