Former Nigerian international Etim Esin, has advocated the need to have two or three players fight for a shirt in the starting line of the Eagles.
This he argued, was vital to create competition among the national team players so that events like the sad occurrence of last weekend when Nigeria crashed out of the African Cup of Nation, will not reoccur.
“We ought to have two three players that should fight for shirt. Players who are capable and can play well in any competition so that we would have a vibrant national team like we use to have.
“All we need to do is to go back to the drawing board and especially get a creative midfielder in the team,” Etim reasoned.
He attributed the Eagles failure to qualify for the Nations Cup to lack of quality competition in the team for places stress further that: “also indiscipline contributed immensely to the failure of the team.
“The only problem was that it was not properly managed especially with good replacement of players.,”
Reflecting on last weekend’s debacle, Etim said “ our exit from the African Cup of the Nation showed that no country can be rated as underdog any more.
“Other countries also want to qualify for the Nation’s Cup and World Cup, so for us it is a big loss.”
