LAGOS—Lagos State Government has been asked to review the Administration of Estate Law in line with modern practices.
The state was also asked to review the services of the office of the Administrator General and the Public Trustee to be more transparent.
Participants at workshop by Lagos State Ministry of Justice, to proffer lasting solution to the challenges facing the office of the Administrator-General in administering estates in the state, made the call, noting that it was important to find ways of amicable resolving inheritance matters in the state.
Participants at the workshop, aimed at creating awareness to the public and legal practitioners on the power of the Administrator General and Public Trustee, listed some of the challenges facing estate administration to include uncooperative attitude of personnel in the probate registry, hostile attitude of beneficiaries and non implementation of the Administration of Estate Law 2005, among others.
Prof. Bolaji Owasanye, who spoke at the workshop, said that the AG &PT office needed to be made an executive agency to improve its revenue collection, access to justice and create jobs.
He also called for the development of a complaint and communication channel that will bring the agency closer to the masses and the development of a service manual that will publicize the role and function of the office through a portal for people to know more about the agency.
