Guinness Nigeria Plc has restated its belief in corporate  intervention in the society as well as doing business in a manner that continues to improve the lives of people.

The company  paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I (OFR) and also donated relief items to residents of Ibadan affected by the recent flood disaster in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Mr. Sesan Sobowale, Corporate Relations Director, in company of  Adrianne Nwagwu,  Head, Sustainability & Responsibility and Ngozi Ife Anene, Corporate Communications Manager commiserated with the people of Ibadan over the flood disaster.

Speaking at the palace of the Olubadan, Sobowale said the company identified with Ibadan residents, adding that this informed its decision to donate relief items to those affected by the disaster.

“We are making a token donation of food items and beddings through the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Prince Ayodeji Abass- Aleshinloye, and hope this will help bring some relief to the affected people”.

He added that Guinness Nigeria Plc as a member of Diageo Plc, has a history of charitable interventions that have positively impacted the lives of people in the places where the company operates.

He listed the Diageo Water of Life programme which aims at providing access to potable water to vulnerable communities across Africa and the establishment of two Guinness Eye Hospitals in Nigeria which the company continues to support through annual subventions in the form of provision of equipment.

“To date, we have over nineteen (19) water projects pan Nigeria, seven (7) of which are located in Western Nigeria. In particular, we have one (1) located in Owode which is presently undergoing renovation. The Owode Water of Life project serves over 100,000 people in that community with potable drinking water,” Sobowale explained.

Sobowale further stated that Guinness Nigeria contributes to the economic growth of the country by providing direct employment, skills development opportunities and payment of dividends and taxes to government. He also said that the company continues to be at the forefront of industry efforts to promote responsible drinking and combating of alcohol misuse.

Spokesman of the Olubadan, High Chief Olufemi Olaifa, thanked the company for its kind gesture and for having it in its plans to come to the rescue of troubled residents of the state. He added that the kind of gesture demonstrated by Guinness was well noted and encouraged other firms to emulate the kind gesture.
