THE Federal Government has been advised to double its efforts at improving power generation across the country so as to get the economy off ground.
The advice was given by the General Manager of a new digital television, GOtv, Mr. Mayo Okunola, at the launch of the service at Iyaganku GRA, at the weekend.
If government could achieve stability in the power sector, he said, Nigerians would be able to enjoy the dividends of the enabling environment being created by the government through its liberalized policies.
He described as the latest Digital Video Broadcast standard, (DVB-T2) technology adding that the new entrant “is low cost digital television service, offering the greatest selection of local channels, made in Africa for Africans as well as the best international channels”.
The DVB-T2 technology standard, he stressed would bring dramatic improvement on the dividend of terrestrial frequencies available to Nigeria. In addition, “it allows for up to 20 channels per frequency as different from DVB-T1 technology which only allows for 12 channels per frequency”.
Noting that the era of people thinking that digital television has to be expensive has gone, Okunola said GOtv brand was specially created to make available an affordable digital television product for all, adding, “it offers great family entertainment at affordable prices. Nigerians are now set to benefit from easy access to an increased number of channels with enhanced picture and sound quality synonymous with digital television”.
He promised that the new digital television service would deliver great value and would give television lovers access to news, children’s programming, documentaries, series and movies and opening up a world of new exciting family entertainment at a price everyone could afford.
