Chairman, sports committee of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Godfrey Gaya has charged the Super Eagles to go for the kill in the game against Guinea tomorrow at the Abuja National stadium.
Gaya who spoke on the big clash said the Eagles can not afford to fail at a time when the country was celebrating it’s independence.
“I charge the Eagles to go all out and do the country proud. They should fight the way the likes of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa ,Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Herbert Macaulay just to mention a few did to liberate our great country,” Gaya said.
The federal lawmaker who disclosed that a good number of his colleagues would be at the stadium to cheer the Eagles to victory urged soccer fans to storm the stadium in their thousands and cheer right from the very first blast of the referee’s whistle.
“My appeal to the fans is to come early and cheer the Eagles to victory. They should display the highest level of patriotism even if the goals fail to come early. With sustained support from the stands the Guineans will surely crumble,” he said.
Gaya stated that he is optimistic the Eagles will overcome the Syli Stars and book a place in the Nations Cup billed for early next year in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea. He commended the players for arriving the country early to prepare for the encounter which Nigeria must win to qualify.
“I have no doubt the Eagles will win on Saturday to qualify for the Nations Cup. The players have demonstrated that they are ready for the task. Nigerian football has got to a level where we can not afford not to be at Africa’s number one football competition,” Gaya said.
