FG threatens to terminate school contracts

THE Federal Government has threatened to terminate the on-going contracts at the Federal Government Girls College, Akure, (FGGS), Ondo State over poor performance.

Minister of State for Education, Mr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, gave the warning when he visited the college at the weekend.

Wike asked the contractors to shape up or the contracts would be terminated.

The minister was in Akure along with officials of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for the flag-off ceremony of the third set of the Federal Teachers Scheme held in Akure, the state capital.

Wike, who expressed dismay over the performance of the contractors handling projects in the school, declared that the Federal Government would henceforth screen contractors handling jobs at Federal Unity Schools across the country.

He warned principals of the schools against abusing the privilege of awarding contracts for capital projects.

He said the Federal Ministry of Education would in the coming weeks commence a complete revival of the Unity Schools.

However, the minister commended the authorities of the FGGS, Akure for providing a good learning environment and maintaining other facilities in the school.
