Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has been bestowed with honourary Doctorate Degree by Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Vice President Namadi commended the University for pioneering the introduction of Global citizenship as a course to enhance the world view of her students and promote peace in the society.
He said: “On our part as a government, we shall continue to facilitate, through the Federal Ministry of Education and its agencies, a very conducive atmosphere which the education sector requires to contribute meaningfully to our short, medium and long term goals”.
He added: “I know for instance that a lot of private tertiary institutions, particularly the universities still grapple with the issue of funding and are clamouring for consideration with regard to Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The Government will as a matter of responsibility, look at this issue and device means by which necessary support will be rendered”.
Represented at the honouraty award by the Minister of Stae for Education, Barrister Wike who also inspected on going projects at the University, last weekend. Others who were honoured with honorary doctorate degrees by Crescent University at its 3rd Convocation include former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Dangote.
Others were Governors of Sokoto and Zamfara States. Meanwhile, Wike who expressed satisfaction with the efforts of private universities in the country to improve the standard of university education described as impressive the rate at which private universities race to meet and surpass minimum standards in terms of university education.
He said that the rate at which private universities are developing infrastructure indicate that they have keyed into the policies of the Federal Government to improve university education.
