Students of the Lagos State University Ojo, have Thursday morning, embarked on a protest over  the planned increase in tuition by the authorities of the school.

Unconfirmed report says, student union executives of the school, were seen mobilising their colleagues to join the protest, causing disruptions in the ongoing  2010/2011 second semester examination. They were said to be chasing out students from the examination halls.

Vanguard gathered that the increase is over 700 percent .

According to a bulletin(INFO/PR/LASU/1192 issued by LASU’s Information and Public Relations Unit of the Vice Chancellor’s office on October 12 entitled “Proposed Increase In School Fees for the  2011/2012 Academic Session: New students admitted into the Arts/Education  faculty will pay N193,75; Social and Management Faculty will pay N223,750.

For Faculty of Law, the proposed fee is N248,750; Part 1 students in Communications/Transport will pay, N238,750;  Science , N258,750, Engineering, N298,750 while College of of Medicine  students will pay N348750.

Reports say, protesters have  taken over the Lagos-Badagry expressway obstructing the free flow of  traffic as they barricaded the road with a seized  BRT bus.
