4-man Karate team arrive from Japan

A Karate team of four from Japan will arrive Abuja today to commence a week-long working visit to Team Nigeria.

The team made up of Kazuo Nasu,7 Dan, Norio Otake, 7 Dan, Masaaki Yokomichi, 6 Dan and Hideto Tsuchiya, 3 Dan will tomorrow hold a public lecture and karate demonstrations at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja.

The team will arrive Lagos on the 21st and hold a public lecture and demonstrations at the national stadium, Surulere the following day.

Addressing the press on the visit in his office in Lagos Tuesday, Secretary General of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, Clement Iyaluegbeghe said the Japanese embassy in Nigeria was bankrolling the trip.

“Indeed, the visit is at the instance of the Japanese embassy in Nigeria and a direct result of our plea to them last year to assist us with the development of the sport in Nigeria,” Iyaluegbeghe said.

Beyond the visit of the Karate team, the KFN scribe said they were exploring ways on how Japan could assist in the area of sending technical instructors to the federation, particularly during the All Africa Games.
