2 arraigned over alleged kidnapping

LAGOS-Two men, Kingsley Onuoha and Ifeanyi Obi, have been arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for alleged kidnapping and threatening one Mr. Nesto Oti’s mother in Lagos.

Onuoha, 30, a barber, and Obi, 32, a structural engineer, were said to have attempted to kidnap Oti’s mother from her house and threatened Oti to pay N500,000 into a bank account traced to them.

According to the prosecutor, Cpl Ishiaku Babaji, the duo threatened Oti through a telephone call on September 17, 2011 about 9:30pm, in the Abule Egba area of the state.

He said: “The accused told Oti that if the money was not paid, his mother would be kidnapped.

“Oti played along and paid the money into the account of the first accused and they were later arrested on the bank premises, where they had gone to cash the money.”

The prosecutor told the court that the alleged offences were punishable under Sections 227 and 365 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.

Trial Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum N100,000 and two sureties each in like sum and adjourned further hearing till November 7, 2011.
