‘Air travelers lack basic information’

Hitches often experienced by airports users in Nigeria have been attributed to information gab between air travellers and the relevant agencies in the aviation sector. This observation was made by  the Aviation Associate, a professional group in the sector, while briefing the press on its forthcoming lecture on “Aviation In Developing Countries and The Challenges of Safety”

The chairman of the group, Mr. Leo Eguabor  said most members of the  public don’t know that they have a part to play in airports,  “if you observe most of us that travel you will observe that there is a tendency for even passengers, members of the public to take things for granted when they are on board a plane.

“When you tell them to switch off their phones that the plane is about to take off you will still see some people up to the last minute still be making calls. They don’t appreciate some of the issues that have to do with safety and these are the things that we want to come out with in the future to enlighten them about.”

Mr. Leo Eguabor said the group was out to provide valuable information to the travelling public in order to aid them, stressing that most passengers’ flaws most rules and regulations at the airport.

He added that the aims and objectives of the Aviation Associates are engendering a favorable working relationship in the aviation industry through encouraging and sustaining safety consciousness within the aviation environment.

Eguabor explained that the association though not a pressure group will focus on providing valuable information and making salient recommendations that would move the aviation industry forward based upon available information available to the association.

“We are not coming as a confrontational group because that is not our focus; we are not in that kind of group we a social intellectual group developmental oriented making recommendations to improve aviation in our country.”
