Damaturu—Yobe State government says it recorded only three cases of polio within the last two years.
Alhaji Lawal Kawu, Director-General, Health Management Board, who disclosed this in Damaturu on Tuesday, said the three cases were discovered in 2010 in Karasuwa, Nangere and Gaidam local governments area.
Kawu said the figure indicated a reduction in polio cases in the state. He said a report compiled by the Rapid Surveillance Assessment team indicated that there was a 55 per cent decline in polio cases in the state.
Kawu recalled that in 2009 the state recorded 14 cases in 11 of the 17 local governments area.
He attributed the decline to the success in polio immunisation, noting that the state government had been working hard with it collaborating partners to ensure that every child was immunised.
