Shocker! Mozambique withdraws vehicles from countries

Organizers of the 10th All Africa Games heightened the sufferings of the participating countries yesterday when they withdrew official vehicles earlier allocated to them. The ugly situation disrupted events and made some athletes go late for their events.

The countries are locked in meeting with the organizers complaining bitterly that athletes and officials could no longer cope with the unbearable conditions. Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Honorable Tunde Popoola said that they were making things difficult in the Games.

“We were shocked when today(yesterday) they withdrew some of the cars and buses from the countries. It is annoying”, he said.

Nigeria’s head of delegation, Alhassan Yakmut explained that Mozambique fell short of vehicles when all the participating countries arrived for the Games. “When few countries came, they assigned vehicles to the countries.

But now all the countries are here and they discovered that their vehicles could not go round, they had to withdraw the ones they gave out earlier”. Sudan and two other countries are also staying outside the Games Village because they had no space for them.

But Team Nigeria were swift in making personal arrangements for buses for the athletes to ensure that no Nigerian athlete is walked over because of the long distances from the Games Village to the competition venues. “We’re equal to the task. Many countries are groaning but we have contingency plans for these lapses”, he said.
