The Senate, Wednesday, paid glowing tributes to late Admiral Augustus Aikhomu describing him as a man of peace.
At its sitting, the senators observed a minute silence for the late admiral after a motion moved by Senator Odion Ugbesia, Edo Central and co-sponsored by Senators Ehigie Edobor, Edo South and Domingo Obende, Edo North.
In his comment, Senate President, David Mark, who noted that history of Nigeria and the armed forces would not be complete without the mention of Aikhomu’s name, said, “We served together in the Armed Forces Headquarters; he was a moderating voice in Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s government.
Those who had attended meetings with him, could testify that he had passion for the country, he had worried about the peace and unity of the country and if he had lived longer, he would have contributed to the achievement of peace in the country. The armed forces will miss his wise counsel and the nation will miss him in every capacity”
