NGE, PAU sign MoU on training of journalists

LAGOS – Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, and School of Media and Communication of Pan-African University, PAU, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, for the establishment of a Centre for Leadership in Journalism, CLEJ, aimed at improving and developing the practice of journalism and the competence of editors, media managers and journalists in general.

The MoU was signed in Lagos, with Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, President of NGE representing the Guild, and Professor  Emevwo Biakolo, Dean of SMC, representing Pan-African University.

According to them, the objectives of CLEJ include, to serve as the focal point for the training of editors and other journalists in technical and professional areas; train editors, media leaders and managers in media enterprise and management skills.

Others are to promote excellence in journalism practice, and integrity in media leadership, conduct research on issues pertaining to media in Nigeria and Africa; and offer short fellowship positions to editors, senior NGE, PAU sign MoU on training of journalistsBY YINKA KOLAWOLEnews managers and other media executives from time to time.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr. Adefaye said the Guild will seek to collaborate with, and engage the nation’s business and industrial communities to appreciate and actively support the Centre with funding initiatives.

He said: “There will be a lot of fund-raising in a very graceful and mature way towards capacity development of journalists. We do expect that stakeholders will be interested in this.”
