The Lagos State Public Works Corporation, LSPWC has concluded plans to establish three additional asphalt production plants to augment the present one at the Corporation’s operational office in Ojodu. The plants are to be installed in the Ikorodu/Epe axis, Badagry and Lagos mainland.
Chairman of LSPWC, Mr. Gbenga Akintola who disclosed this to newsmen stated that the additional plants became necessary to enable the Corporation repair roads during the festive period and at nights.
He explained that the decision to build three additional asphalt plants was taken to ensure that most roads in Lagos are covered in the maintenance work. The existing asphalt plant which produces 300 tonnes of asphalt per hour, he said, cannot cater for the enormous repair works required on Lagos roads.
Akintola said with the new plants, the agency would be able to repair inner roads in the city and those in the rural areas. He stated that road maintenance is paramount to the corporation and pledged not to relent in ensuring that roads within the metropolis are adequately maintained.
The LSPWC boss said the corporation utilised the last public holidays to carry out maintenance works on some roads in the metropolis.
The affected roads included: Ogunnusi Road, Ojodu, Oyewole Road, Mulero Agege, Oyetayo/Church Street, Bolade Oshodi, Church Sheet Mosan Alimosho, Baruwa Road, Ipaja and Oba Molaja Road, Ikorodu.
‘’We have discovered from experience that more roads were maintained during the festive period and at night and areas that were difficult for our maintenance gang to work during the normal work day were repaired with ease”, he said.
Mr. Akintola advised Lagos residents to complement the road maintenance activities of the Corporation so that rehabilitated roads will last longer.
He appealed to the residents to desist from habits capable of causing damage on Lagos roads and caution one another from engaging in the act of dumping refuse in drains or on roads.
