AN operator in the nation’s fledging Free Zone business venture, Mr. Ladi Jadesimi, has called on the National Assembly to urgently pass the Nigerian Exports Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) Bill, saying the protracted delay in the passage of the reviewed law has rendered the growth of the industry stagnant.
The Chairman of the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) base, who recently delivered a paper at a Free Trade Zone interactive forum in Lagos with a focus on “FTZ Market Outlook for Nigeria: Opportunities and Challenges” joined others operators who took turns to review developments in the industry with a verdict that the current NEPZA Act which was enacted in 1992, has become obsolete, hence its provisions were no longer suitable for the industry in line with global best practices.
In his presentation at the forum which was held under the auspices of NEPZA, Chairman of LADOL, Mr. Ladi Jadesimi, pointed out that an update of the law would augur well for the industry as it seeks to present a platform for all ministries and agencies whose activities impact on free zones operations.
